The hemp market in the UK is expanding in both demand and supply. British consumers appreciate many of the same qualities in hemp as Finnish consumers: its exceptional capacity to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, the high nutritional value of hemp products, and the versatility of hemp.

However, regulatory constraints make hemp cultivation challenging in the UK. Growing hemp requires a special license, and the associated quality standards are strict, making it difficult for individual farmers to take up cultivation.

FoodFarm’s partner, the British Hemp Company, and its sister company UK Hemp, operate in multiple areas of the British hemp sector. In addition to processing and selling industrial hemp products, the companies also provide advice on hemp cultivation techniques and obtaining the necessary permits.

Hemp Oil for Cosmetics and Fiber for Gut Health

Steve Glover, the founder of the British Hemp Company and UK Hemp, received his first license to cultivate hemp in 2017. Since then, he has acquired numerous additional licenses and begun collaborating with FoodFarm. UK Hemp exclusively distributes FoodFarm’s products throughout the UK.

Glover has also maintained a long-standing partnership with FoodFarm’s parent company, Trans Farm, from which the company buys hemp seeds for sowing for it’s farmers.

According to Glover, there is a significant demand for hemp in the UK.

“We are seeing an increase in demand for hempseed oil in skincare manufacture,” says Glover. He also discusses fiber products for digestive health and highlights how hemp provides an excellent alternative to meat for pet food manufacturers.

There is significant growth potential as plant-based diets gain popularity. According to Glover, British vegetarian food is often highly processed; however, hemp already provides a more natural source of nutrients for many. Hemp naturally contains all 20 amino acids, along with omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in an optimal ratio for human health.

Fair to Farmers and Committed to a Cleaner Future

Both UK Hemp and the British Hemp Company hold their partners, customers, and the environment in high regard. The driving goal for both companies is the sustainable development of the market and nature.

Finnish oilseed hemp is an excellent fit for the products of both UK Hemp and the British Hemp Company, whether as a sowing seed or a raw material for food products – sustainable production and compliance with quality standards are guaranteed.

When asked about his experience working with FoodFarm, Glover’s response is short and to the point:

“Absolutely great people to work with.”
